In Kentucky, I had never heard of anyone paddle boarding before and I had never done it either. I love trying new activities so nonetheless I was pretty excited. It was a lot harder to stand then what I thought and I’m also not the most balanced person so I was surprised I didn’t fall right into the water. It was fun to learn how to maneuver the boards back and forth and how to turn them. Being on crew, it was nice to get out on the water and relax instead of working out. What I really loved was having the chance to see the college from the water instead of just walking through it. I was kind of happy not everyone showed up because then I like hanging out on the water and paddle boarding so not having everyone there gave me extra time do that. Once gain this was a great time to get to know the people in RCC a lot more. We finally were able to just have fun instead of being in a classroom. I would love to do paddle boarding again and was even thinking about the yoga one too.
ReplyDeleteWhen I first heard that my RCC would be doing a paddleboarding trip, I got so excited! I do not own a paddleboard, but I’ve been many times, since my boyfriend bought himself one and I used to rent and go on paddleboarding trips with a local outdoor sporting company. I hadn’t been on one since summer so it was great to be back out on the water. I hadn’t been on Lake Virginia before, and I realized how beautiful the Rollins area is, and that if there are alligators in the lake, they don’t bother you. A lot of people skipped out from our class, but I wish they could’ve experienced the great time we had out there. I think the whole group had a really good time; and no one fell in! I actually did get a work out from it, and if you push yourself and keep a steady pace, it’s a great way to exercise. I had the flu when we went, but it definitely cheered me up! I had a great time, and this was by far the best co-curricular activity we’ve had so far!
ReplyDeleteI was so excited to go paddle boarding because I had been wanting to try it ever since going to St. Pete’s and seeing people float by me as I was kayaking in the bay. I think this was one of the best things we had done as a class as a co-curricular activity. I think it gave us a chance to just play around and help other classmates get used to using a paddle board if they were having a hard time with it at first. I wish my other classmates didn’t miss out on the great time we all had but it was nice to be able to spend the full hour on the paddle board. It was also a really great workout if you got yourself up to speed which I definitely did! It was also nice at the end because we were able to sit out in the lake on the board and hang out before we had to bring the boards back to shore!
ReplyDeleteWhen I first heard that our RCC class was going paddleboarding, I was a little frightened. Born and raised in Florida, I have seen too many alligators and read about too many alligator incidents. So naturally I was scared of falling in the lake. Just floating in a lake is a feeling I do not enjoy at all! But i actually had a very nice time paddleboarding! It was a brand new and exciting experience for me! I loved the fact that we went so early, because it made me feel like I had already done so much for the day and it was only ten in the morning. I feel this activity has been the best activity our rcc class has participated in, I just wish everyone was able to be a part of it. Thanks to this activit though, I have become intrested in the paddleboard excercise classes that are held out on the lake !
ReplyDeleteI thought paddleboarding was going to be a lot easier than it was. Almost the entire time I was using my paddle the wrong way so I was barely moving. I also have back and feet problems so I was in a lot of pain the whole time. It was not the best experience for me. I did learn a lot about how different people are good at different things. Also, I am glad I got to try it out and I wish I had figured out that my paddle was the wrong way sooner… Paddleboarding is a lot more of a workout than you think it is going to be and I wish I was better at it because it targets your whole body. I am actually very shocked that I didn’t fall in because I thought I was going to be the one person to do so. It was good for me to experience paddleboarding and now I can really appreciate all the hard work people put into it.
ReplyDeletePaddle boarding was a great idea for a break from class. I’ve never really heard of paddle boarding before I came to college here at Rollins. I was nervous about trying it for the first time and wondered if it was as easy as it looks. Turns out it was and I had no problem paddling around. I don’t know if I like that or canoeing better. I can see how it could be difficult if you are on rough waters though. The lake was clam so it was fun. I think I like lying down and paddling like a surfboard the best because you get a little wet which cooled me down and I got a little tired standing up and paddling for that long. I was hoping that someone would fall into the water, which didn’t happen. That was my one disappointment of the day.
ReplyDeleteEven though paddle boarding was really early in the morning I enjoyed the activity. I have always seen people paddle boarding in the ocean and it looked really difficult. When everyone first started out on their knees it was funny to see us, one by one, get up on our feet and start really paddle boarding. I liked how Rachel knew how to paddle board so she was showing us how to go faster and what was easier so we wouldn't fall. It became a race for who could get to the pool the fastest, and we even started playing bumper boards. Also, at the end, we got to just sit and relax on our boards in the lake and tan. I thought it was nice of Rachel to let us do that and go off on our own. All together I really liked the experience and hope to paddle board again.
